Light quality and dormancy overcoming in seed germination of Echium plantagineum L. (Boraginaceae)

Abstract Light is considered a factor that influences the seed germination of many weed species, and it can signal whether environmental conditions are favorable or not for germination. We aimed to study if there an influence light quality dormancy overcoming in Echium plantagineum L. carried out 2 x 6 factorial experiment, with without potassium nitrate followed by immersion gibberellic acid; six qualities, obtained through filters: blue, green, red, far-red, white absence light. The evaluations performed were speed index (GSI), average time (AGT), at four 14 days after seeding (DAS), accumulated relative frequency observed significant interaction among qualities studied variables. There was no effect evaluated variables, when performing overcoming, presenting above 90% all qualities. However, we greater GSI, DAS red filter 5, 4, 29 45%, respectively. When seeds submitted light, only 7% DAS. E. presented under incidence being classified as preferably positively photoblastics, provided overcome.
